Juan Rulfo
Juan Rulfo, 1917–1986 (author page at Amazon
), was one of Mexico’s most important twentieth-century writers. Taciturn in his dealings with others and frugal in his literature, he published only two books: the novel Pedro Páramo (1955) and the collection of stories El llano en llamas (1953), which includes the story translated here by Ilan Stavans. Rulfo’s influence in the Spanish world is enormous.
